My counseling philosophy lies in believing that individuals should have the intrinsic motivation to make changes in their lives. Therefore, I provide a directive, person-centered approach to help clients begin to feel safe in exploring and resolving their ambivalence around their issues.
I have been working with adults with substance use issues for over four years. With this experience, I have discovered that when I meet clients “where they are at” and help guide them to find their answers from within, they become more motivated and comfortable to stop using substances. In addition, I have observed that with my approach clients do not feel pushed and instead feel in control and satisfied with altering their lives.
As a recovery enthusiast, my genuine passion for recovery is my greatest strength as a counselor. While recovery can seem daunting, I provide empathic understanding coupled with sincerity that recovery is a positive solution. While understanding that clients may have barriers and fears, I utilize strength-based approaches to guide them to see that overcoming their obstacles are achievable and rewarding. Once clients voice to me that they are ready to alter their behaviors, I collaborate with them and provide Cognitive Behavioral methods to help solidify their desired changes.
I also specialize in stress and anger management, trauma and daily life issues. Throughout counseling, I maintain a safe atmosphere so that clients can explore and find resolutions to their issues. I believe that collaboration is key to a successful counseling experience, therefore I utilize unique tailored approaches coupled with my counseling philosophy.
